The Girls are Back!!!

In case you're wondering well "The Girls" have been....

Well, they've had a crazy time the last month or so. The Fairfield Flamingo Migratory Commission decided an evacuation was necessary before Hurricane Ike bowled into the Gulf Coast. Two of the girls evacuated to the Biggs Wildlife Refuge (the garage) and two evacuated to the Venette Zoo.

There they hunkered down and rode out the storm safely. Now... I know you're thinking that was a month ago -- that they've kind of been sitting down on the job. Well, with fences to repair, roofs that were missing shingles and many a tree branch to be cleaned up, they were busy!

But they're back on the job as of this week and having more fun than ever. Stay Tuned!

Still "Birding!"

"The Girls" are having a great time and seeing quite a bit of Fairfield (and beyond). Our flockers have had a crazy time -- but I think last night has to take the cake. We'd hit a "wall" and needed to start over -- so Biggsy gave us the name of a friend. We weren't really sure where to put the flamingos in his "yard," and the ground was pretty hard. After about 10 minutes of trying to find a spot, we ended up putting them just outside the fence. I'm not sure if the hosts knew anything was up or not, but if they didn't, they missed a great show!!

More Flocking Fun

Things got a bit crazy in the flocking business tonight. The Sanfords sent their set of beauties to their grandparents, who will surely be thrilled about the treat tomorrow morning. One problem: One of their birds has had an amputation. Yep, she lost a leg. The Fairfield Flockers had to cruise back by the original location to collect the missing leg. YIKES!

The Klein family sent their happy little flock out west -- back across Mason to the Schneider family. Theirs is quite the hoppin', social cul-de-sac, so I'm sure "The Girls" will be met with great excitement in the morning. There are only about 200 kids living in that cul-de-sac, so it should be fun!!

The Fairfield Flamingo Migratory Council is keeping a close eye on the Gulf, with a Category 10 hurricane bearing down on Houston, bringing with it 300 mph winds (if you listen to the Weatherman), we're going to need to be on top of things over the weekend. Rest-assured, we will not evacuate -- at least without our birds!!

Have a great weekend!

"The Girls" are On the Move!!!

After hanging out with the Sanders and Baehren families for a couple of days, our girls are on the move!!!

Gladys & Gertrude have migrated north to the home of the Sanfords, and Bertha & Beatrice have made their way to the Klein's home.

Many thanks to the Sanders and Baehren families for helping us launch "The Girls" in grand style! You rock!

"The Girls" are a Go!

Our super-sneaky (or rather not sneaky at all) Flamingo Flocking Team took "The Girls" out on their first run tonight. Since we aren't in "pass the flamingo" mode just yet, we had to land them with two families that we thought would enjoy helping us launch our flocks. Soooo.... Gladys and Gertrude landed with the Sanders family, and Bertha and Beatrice landed with the Baehren family! Stay tuned for updates on our little flocks!
